The general weight limit for your RV roof is between 250 and 280 pounds, but it could be more and sometimes even less depending on the RV.

If your RV doesn’t have a ladder it’s likely that the roof wasn’t made to be walked on. While there’s a good chance that it can still support 250 pounds it’s not something I’d want to test and I certainly wouldn’t suggest hanging out up there. Instead, you should try to clean using a ladder next to your rig. Why does a ladder matter?

A RV roof is good enough to hold upto 300 lbs but that does not mean you should put it to test many times. An old motorhome or travel trailer roof goes through sunlight, snow and its surface may not remain as good as it was new. The capacity also decreases and materials like rubber can become soft and chalky.

With that they can look up your specific trailer and confirm whether it has the rain gutters, which are required to install the Rack'em Fitz-All Enclosed Trailer Ladder Rack # RA-28. This rack itself does offer a 400-lb capacity as you noted, but the roof/rain gutter weight capacity will also affect your actual load-carrying ability.

The weight holding capacities of some travel trailer can be as high as 5000 lbs or even more. Have seen 4 or even 5 proper adults being accommodated in single slide out. Bigger slide out manufacturers like lippert or venture manufacturing say that they their hydraulic slide out system are quite capable of holding between 1000 lbs to 4000 lbs.

Mounting Too Much Weight to the Trailer Bumper You can easily install these below your bumper to increase the weight that your bumper can hold. When we first bought our travel trailer, we had an SUV so there wasn’t a convenient place to store the generator. Inside the SUV made it smell like gas in the car, and inside the trailer had the same issue.

Whenever neurotic people like me think to ask this question, Northwood will tell them that 2′ is an acceptable load for the roof of any RV, including theirs. After that, you’re on your own and had better start checking for leaks when things thaw out. Scraping snow off the RV roof is a headache, but not as much as an interior leak.
