Three weeks is very common for most people with 3-5 years' experience. Even still with two weeks if I work a long weekend I'll get at least one comp vacation day so I actually probably end up getting 3-4 weeks vacation because there are a lot of Saturdays I work.

Amazon has less leave than any other major software company I've worked at. IIRC, it was 6 fixed holidays a year, 6 days of 'personal time,' 2 weeks of vacation (3 starting with your second year), and 3 days of sick leave. If you have a bad year ...

That's 33 without the overtime compensation though. 25 days legal, 6 days where the company's closed (Christmas), between 8 and 11 days to catch back the "overtime", and 2 days seniority (although it's been only 2 years, it tops at 5 days after 25 years).

West coast US, all three of my jobs started at 3 week's vacation with about 10 paid holidays. Most big companies in my experience bump up to 4 weeks after 4 or 5 year mark, 5 weeks after 10 or so, cap out at 6 weeks I worked 2 years at my first company then quit to travel for 6 months. Highly recommend it, harder to make time as you get older

6. level 1. [deleted] · 5y. I get 3 weeks (per year) at my current job, and had 3 weeks at my previous job. My employer before that (about 5 years back) was a little bit more generous with 4 weeks. My wife, on the other hand, has been with her company for over 20 years, so she gets 5 weeks of paid vacation every year.

Personally, I work a regular job from 7 AM to 4:30 PM (9.5 hours each day, but I also get every other friday off) If I worked on an offshore platform, however, I'd be working 2 weeks (approx. 12 hours a day) and then have 2 weeks of straight vacation each and every month.

Some of the head people in my office get almost 12 weeks of vacation a year! Work slows way down over the summer months because its pretty common for people to take off long periods over the summer. Taking longer vacations is almost encouraged from what i've gotten here so far. Jul 5, 18 2:15 pm ·
