The current (December 2017) Booking. com commission in my area starts at 15%. Hoteliers can use the Extranet to increase the commission rate to achieve higher ranking in their area. I just signed on Extranet for a property that I manage and the chart bellow shows that if I increase the commission rate by 2.4 to 17.4% I should get 19% more views.

Likewise Booking.com itself doesn't charge customers and only passes on credit card information to the hotels. Therefore it will be up to the first hotel to try and charge your card after you fail to show up. If the stay was booked without a credit card, hotels usually won't bother with trying to charge you the cancellation fee.

In fact, Booking.com rarely charges you anything. In most cases, all charges are payable directly to the hotel when you arrive. Of course, there are occasions where Booking.com does collect payment, but this is always stated clearly during the booking process.

Unlike other platforms that charge guests extra fees, the price you set is the price we display on Booking.com. And you only pay if we generate business for you – there are no added sign-up or listing costs. Note: When a guest makes a booking through the Booking.com platform, their reservation is confirmed immediately.

You won't necessarily be charged by a hotel for the full amount of any hold on your account. Usually, you'll only be charged for the room either at check in or check out, assuming it's not prepaid, and then for any incidental charges, with the hold being released shortly after you check out.

The total you will be charged depends on the hotel and its terms. If the booking cancellation suggests a fine, it will be charged from your bank card. The fine stands as a partial payment of your stay. The reason for this is because the sooner the date of your check-in, the owner of the hotel is more likely to be left with no guests.

Trip Providers pay a commission (being a small percentage of the product price (e.g. room price)) to Booking.com after the end user has consummated the service or product of the Trip Provider (e.g. after the guest has stayed at (and paid) the accommodations).
