FAQ

Those who are looking for an answer to the question «Does booking a hotel charge your card right away?» often ask the following questions:

❔ When does a hotel charge your credit card right away?

Tips. If you prepay the room partially or fully, the hotel will likely charge your card for that amount right away. In other cases, depending on the hotel's policies, the hotel might charge you for a room deposit when you book and then place holds for the rest of your room fees and incidental charges once you check in.

❔ Do hotels charge your card right away?

Generally, booking directly through a hotel requires a credit card number, but that doesn't mean every hotel will charge your card immediately… Regardless, the first time a hotel charges your credit card might not be the last – the hotel will always be able to charge you for incidentals or damage after you check out.

❔ Do hotels charge your credit card right away?

Most hotels require a valid credit card number to hold a reservation. The hotel generally does not charge the room costs to the credit card until your stay is complete. This is not true for reservations made through third parties such as travel agents or online travel clearinghouses.

Booking.com don't take payments. They pass your card details to the accommodation and the accommodation charges your card. Payment should have been taken within 10 days of your reservation date, after this time your card details are wiped from booking.com system.

I booked a non-refundable rate, so yes, they took the amount on the card straight away. The only additional payment to be made is the 'city tax', but I believe that is the case for all hotels there. I had a great stay, so wouldn't hesitate to recommend. over a year ago

Of course, you can pay the hotel bill with a credit card or cash if you don't want to actually pay it with the debit card when the time comes to check out. But if there is a hold on your debit card, it will not be released immediately since it will remain as a kind of insurance for the hotel until you check out of your room.

When you are booking to pay later.. at the property… the property receives your card details. If you are a ‘no show’ the hotel can charge you. Some hotels charge you before you arrive to ‘test’ the card validity. In the worst case scenario the front desk goes shopping/lunch with the card details.

With a credit card, the incidentals deposit is merely a hold on your credit card. But with a debit card, the hotel actually takes that money out of your account right away.

If you book on the Marriott web site, or call and book and then choose a corporate, AAA, AARP or other cancelable rate, your credit card is not charged until you check in. If you choose the "advance purchase" option, your card is charged up front and the room cannot be canceled.

If you've purchased a package, your credit card will likely be charged for all pre-arranged reservations (air, hotel, any side trips, transfers, etc.) at the time of booking. At check in you'll be asked for a credit card (in case you run off with or damage anything) and will again be asked if you want to leave the account open for room charges.

The same year, I discovered that if you book on Booking.com using your credit card, they’ll just pass on that data verbatim to the hotel, where I saw my credit card information printed on an unprotected piece of paper. It begs the question: what does Booking.com even do, besides pocketing 20 to 30% of your reservation payment?
