Those who are looking for an answer to the question «80mm or 100mm travel?» often ask the following questions:

❔ Is 80mm travel enough?

I rode it for 3 rides and came to the conclusion that 80mm isn't enough. I have to run too much air in it to allow it to be plush. Upping the travel to 90mm made a noticable difference in plushness. If your frame will accomodate, I'd suggest 100mm.

❔ Is 100mm travel enough?

For basic trail riding I would recommend something closer to 120mm as most 100mm bikes are xc race bikes and likely won't be as fun on most trails. If you want to do any drops or impacts then 100mm isn't enough. You'll bottom out every time.

❔ Is 100mm fork travel enough?

For basic trail riding I would recommend something closer to 120mm as most 100mm bikes are xc race bikes and likely won't be as fun on most trails. If you want to do any drops or impacts then 100mm isn't enough. You'll bottom out every time.

Try the bike with the 100mm travel and if you think you want a slightly steeper ha, lower bb, etc, then the 100mm travel can easily be adjusted to 80mm.

My Trek came with adjustable travel (80mm - 130mm) Recon 351 forks on it and different models in the range using the same frame have either 80mm or 100mm forks. 130mm does feels a bit like a chopper, but it is still perfectly rideable. There's not really any noticeable difference between 80 and 100. Hope this helps.

My bike came with an 80mm travel fork. I haven't found any 80mm fork online; the lowest travel is 100mm. I asked the support team if I can install a 100mm fork in it and they said it would void the warranty since it's beyond the 10% allowable travel increase.

63mm travel forks to 100mm yes or no? ... swapped 80mm to 150mm, and I can highly recommend it as long as you dont go too crazy with the increased travel. 60 to 100 should be ok but your bike will definitely adopt a more chopper-like pose! it will, however, be easier to ride up hills on the road.

hay, personally..if it were i i would do the 80mm..stay oem if possible, i had an older specialized rock hopper it had 80mm travel rock shocks..i traded for 100mm with a buddy..he had a slack frame design trek dont remember the model of his..but i thought i would love a bit more travel..wasnt fun, because of the frame design it jacked the front up like 3/4 inch which shifted my weight ...

(This compensates perfectly for either 80mm or 100mm travel forks OK I understand, but really its not hard, measure it, get a fork the right length or close to. Love that BS from them, compensate 'perfectly' (erm their is only one perfect, the rest is acceptable/good enough/OK/will do/won't kill you) for 2 different lengths - pure marketing BS.
